8 Things to Do This Weekend in Lanzarote

What to do in Lanzarote? Many times we are not sure what the events on the island are, but here we leave you a summary of the best things to do this weekend in Lanzarote. From theater to live music, the carnivals in Teguise and Tinajo, of course. So do not put your costume away just yet.

1. Humor: ANTONIA SAN JUAN. “Mi lucha”

The comedian Antonia San Juan returns to Lanzarote with a solo show in which she demonstrates her versatily and talent as an actress. With the play “Mi Lucha” (My struggle), the artist from Gran Canaria plays different characters on the stage of Teatro Insular de Lanzarote. The performance, that includes stories about love, loneliness, death, egocentrism or even one in which we meet her own twin sister, will be on Thursday February 18 at 9:00 pm. Tickets are priced at 17 euros and are available online, they can also be purchased at the box office the day of the performance, one hour before, if the show is not sold out. ANTONIA SAN JUAN. 2. Enjoy the Carnival!

This week you can enjoy the Carnival of Teguise and Tinajo, along with a special program for children in Puerto del Carmen.

Teguise Carnival officially began last week, but from Thursday Feb. 18 there is a varied program in cultural and Civic centers. Today and tomorrow is the “Traditional Canary Island Carnival”, starting with the round table at 8:30 pm, with specialists from these traditions in the Casa-Museo del Timple. Tomorrow, the Traditional Carnival includes at 8:00 pm: Los Diabletes (Teguise), Los Buches (Arrecife), ONG El Cardero Punto Com (Los Indianos – La Palma), el Mata-la-culebra (Tenerife), Los Cabritos y el Diablo (Aldea de San Nicolás), Los Toros de Taeo (Lanzarote), el Sansusino (Garachico). Tinajo Carnival 2016

Este jueves 18 de febrero, de 17:00 a 19:30 horas habrá un Taller de preparación del pasacalles  (en el recinto de las verbenas9. Los mayores tendrán su Fiesta de la 3era edad a las 17:30 horas en el Centro de Mayores de Teguise. Carnaval de Tinajo Cartel 2016 Hola Lanzarote Today, from 5:00 to 7:30 pm there will be a workshop on preparation of the parade (in the grounds of the verbenas). The eldery will have their 3rd age party at 5:30 pm in the Senior Center Teguise. Tomorrow at 7:00 pm, there will be the parade, organized by the Department of Youth, departing from the grounds of the verbena (the children who wish to participate should be one hour before). At 9:00 pm the Gala of Carnival will be held with the participation of Comparsa Cumbacheros, the School of Dance of Tinajo and the Tabletudos Afilarmónica (Social Hall). Here you can enjoy the popular Verbena the Kimera Band orchestra and Grupo Travesía, from 11:00 pm. During the course of the festival will be held the sheet costume contest (individual, couple and group). This Saturday, February 20, at 11:00 hours the la II Carrera Solidaria de Mascaritas (II Solidarity Mascaritas Race) is celebrated. The beginning of the Verbena will be at 9:00 pm, with music of the Lanzarote Swing, Grupo Swing and Band Kimera Orchestra. And the Day Carnival is celebrated on Sunday, February 21, at 12:00. Along with the Children's Party, starring the Murga Los Intoxicaditos and Show Wizard Jose Angel, and then group performance from Inexia and verbena with Suso and Family Orchestra. There will also be tapas at 1 €.

3. Music: ANNI B SWEET. Tour Party

It’s the first time that the singer Anni B Sweet is performing in Lanzarote. And she will do it with a live concert on Saturday, February 20th. The singer from Malaga present songs from her latest album "Chasing Illusions (Subterfuge, 2015)," a lively album in which Anni let the light and hope sneak in lovely compositions, perfect melodies which highlights her unique voice.   You can expect new songs that move between soul and rock of the 70s, as the new wave of the 80s, with an unforgettable result. The concert will be at 9:00 pm. Tickets are priced at 15 euros and are available for sale online or at the box office of Teatro Insular of Lanzarote on the day of the performance, one hour before the show starts. ANNI B SWEET. Storytelling and Percussion Show: “Viaje a África” Storytelling and percussion show "Journey to Africa" Cristina Temprano and Karina Lacourtois present, this Sunday 21 in the San Bartolome Theatre, the narrative and percussion show "Journey to Africa" (Viaje a África). 5. Urban Artists Exhibition

From Thursday February 18, the Art Gallery Ermita de San Antonio in Tías host the exhibition of urban drawings called “Urban Sketchers” of Lanzarote. This event isincluded in the program of the Biennial Off. The opening of this exhibition will take place at 8:00 pm today. The exhibition includes drawings of the last meetings of the "Urban Sketchers” that took place during the months of November, December and January at various locations in Lanzarote, Quemada Beach, the Ermita de los Dolores in Mancha Blanca or Pueblo Marinero in Costa Teguise, coordinated by the famous architect and illustrator Barbara Müller. Drawings that tell stories of our island, capturing scenes directly from what we observe. 6. “Canary Literature Day” tribute to Pedro Lezcano Montalvo

The Friends of Literature "Palabras"Collective, located in Playa Honda with the collaboration of the city of San Bartolomé, honors Pedro Lezcano Montalvo this Saturday, February 2,0 at the Civic Center Playa Honda, starting at 7:30 pm. 7. Nu-tri-cross Triatlhon Cross

This sunday, February 21, at 10:00 am, takes places the second edition of NUTRICROSS. This competitions is organized by Nutrición Canarias and MD Training. The race includes: 750 meter swim, 20km mountain bike and 5 km run. People may participate individually or in teams. The collection of numbers will take place in the Canary Nutrition Store on Friday 19 (from 10:00 to 13:00 pm, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm) and Saturday 20 (from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm). There will also be a race for children at the end of the triathlon Cross, for free, in order to encourage more young people to practice sports. The distances for the kids are: (A) -Benjamin and pre benjamin 7-9 years: roundtrip 500 meters; (B) 10-11 Years -Alevin: round 1000 meters; (C) -Infant 12 to 13 years: round 2000 meters; (C) -Cadete 14 to 15 years: round 2000 meters. 8. Activities and Carnival Party of the Emisora Clandestin Association

This week's Emisora Clandestina musical and cultural Association presents a program for everyone. Thursday, from 7:00 pm there will be a documentary “Tirar Comprar y Tirar” (toss, Buy and Toss). Tomorrow there will be a Jam Sessions, while Saturday, from 2:00 pm it will be the Carnival Festival with food, costume contest, the first prize is a Emisora Clandestina cd and t-shirt, the second prize is a handmade gift from ceramics. There will also be a Emisora Clandestina from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. From 8:00 pm Charanga, followed by a guest DJ. As always there will be a special area for children with airbeds and masks workshop.
