18 Things to Do this Weekend in Lanzarote

Who says there’s nothing to do in Lanzarote? This weekend we tell you about the best events for the weekends, so you can have many options of things to do. There’s technology events, International Book’s Day activities and to finish the weekend a lot of great music. You can always find Things to do in Lanzarote, and this week there are 18.

1.Dance: “SUELO Y AIRE”. Lanzarote’s Contemporary Ballet

In commemoration of the International Dance Day, that it’s celebrated worldwide on April 29, in Lanzarote we’ll have a show of contemporary dance to celebrate. And tonight, at 9:00 pm arrives, at Lanzarote Insular Theatre, now called Teatro Victor Fernandez Gopar "The Salinero", the Contemporary Ballet of Lanzarote with dance "Suelo y Aire” (Soil and Air).

This show will featured performers like Paloma Hurtad,o Dance Company of Natalia Medina, the Nómada Company, the Contemporary Ballet of Lanzarote and Acerina H. Toledo. They will astonish the public for one hour in a unique and unrepeatable event.

2. Lanzarote Cognitive Tourist Challenge’s Final.

This afternoon will be the final presentation of Lanzarote Cognitive Tourist Challenge contest. This events has five teams, including a company of Lanzarote, have worked to present their proposals for a new app for Jameos del Agua, with IBM Watson technology and support of Lanzarote’s Art, Culture and Tourism Centers.

The last day of this event will feature the presentation of projects at 5:15 pm. Each participant will make a demo and will show the results of their proposal to the jury (presentation of 15 minutes).

At 7:00 pm there will be the general closure in the Auditorium of Jameos del Agua, by the CACT CEO, Minister of Tourism of the Canary Islands and the President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. The entry is free, and if you like technology and enjoy tourism apps, this event is for you.

3.Book Day: “Lee la vida, vive la lectura” (Read Life, Live reading). San Bartolomé 2016

5:00 pm: storytellers in the Municipal Library of St. Bartolome.

7:00 pm: Presentation of the book: "El Guirre" by Fefo Garcia in Casa Ajei.

Saturday, April 23

12:30 pm: storyteller in Playa Honda Civic Centre.

5:30 pm: Concert Series Classical Orchestra Lanzarote

Concerts in Casa Ajei: " Los Cuentos Robados “ (The Tales Stolen) in Cassa Ajei. Limited capacity.  Family Concert.


 

4.Haria celebrates International Book Day

Haria also celebrates International Book Day this weekend. We leave the full program of the municipality:

Friday, April 22:

From 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Children’s workshop at the Socio Cultural Center La Tegala in Haria.

7:00 pm. Children’s show “Piratas Ilustrados” (Illustrated Pirates) by Reciclown Theatre.

Saturday, April 23: International Day of the Book

12:00 pm- “Benito y el Teatro embrujado’” (Benito nad the hunted theatre)  by the puppet company “Espíritus de Sal “ Theatre.

The titles of the most emblematic works of Galdos 'Electra', 'Fortunata and Jacinta' or ‘Doña Perfecta’ come to life through fun characters through the clown game, the use of puppets and music accompany the viewer on an imaginary world, in a tribute to Galfos by the “Espíritus de Sal “ Theatre company.

8:30 pm- Talk and presentation of the book “Arquitectura Tradicional de Canarias. Un recorrido a través del dibujo” (Canary Islands Traditional architecture. A tour through drawings), by Santiago Aleman, in the Sociocultural Center La Tegala in Haria.

Sunday, April 24

From 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Children’s workshop at the Socio Cultural Center La Tegala in Haria.

5. Book Fair Tías

The Tías City Council invites you to go to the Book Fair on Friday 22, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and Saturday 23, from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. There will be:

- Storyteller, mats, face painting, balloon modeling, puppets, Book’s stands, among other things.

-Book signing from different authors.

- Award ceremony of the contest "Marcadores de Libros” (Book Markers).

Also on Saturday, at 9:00 pm in Tías Municipal Theatre there will a concert of  DUENDE JOSELE presenting “La Semilla” (The Seed), the album with musicians: Manuel Gopar (Guitar and Timple), Domingo Corujo (bass), Israel Curbelo (keyboards and “cajón”), Tony Cantero (electric guitar), Orlando Moreno (Trumpet) and Alejandra García (battery pack will interfere).

Admission is free. 

6. Sculpture to Leandro Perdomo Spínola’s Unveiling

This Friday, at 11:00 am, it will be the unveiling of a bust of sculptor Mariola Acosta, dedicated to the figure of Don Leandro Perdomo Spinola, which is to serve as testimony of recognition for posterity.

7. Arrecife ciudad de moda (Arrecife Fashion City).

Arrecife will receive this Friday all kinds of fashion lovers, with an incredible day filled with fashion and local talent, an initiative of the City Council within the Plan of promotion and revitalization of the commercial sector of the city. The event will be in La Plazuela, right in the center of the capital, and it will have two main activities. “I Gran Pasarela de Moda del Comercio Local” (First great fashion show of local stores), at 8:00 pm and the Children’s Workshop for those who want to become “Models for a Day” at 6:00 pm.

8. Dance International Day 2016

The celebration of the "V International Dance Day" will be held on Saturday 23 at the Municipal Sports Pavilion in Tias, as part of the initiative of the School of Dance Beatrice Senent and the Department of Culture and Sports of Tías City council.

This year will have the collaboration of 24 schools, from Lanzarote and Gran Canaria, plus you can enjoy workshops and Master Classes. Admission is free.

9. The Mix Lanzarote. Biosfera Plaza.

This Saturday, you can also witness, or listen to a radio program that is broadcast in English and Spanish, because The Mix Lanzarote will be in the Biosfera Plaza.

10.Jameos’ Nights (. Toñín Corujo Quartet and Antonio Corujo.

On Saturday 23 April, the Lanzarote Arts, Culture and Tourism centers and Tonin Corujo present Jameos’ Nights with Toñín Quartet and Antonio Corujo.

The renowned local folklorist share the stage with the band led by his son, timplista Tonin Corujo, from 10:30 pm.

11.InstaMeet 13 Lanzarote 2016

Coinciding with the International Earth Day, the Lanzarote’s Arts, Culture and Tourism Centers and Instagram account @IG_Lanzarote organize a meeting of users of this social network this Saturday, April 23, in “Montañas del Fuego”.

Instameet is an event that aims to become a space where you can meet in person the members of a community, Instagramers.

The first instameet in Lanzarote will be from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, guaranteed to take amazing photographs of volcanic lands and share them with the world through Instagram, which will be posting on the Worldwide Instameet 13.

12. V Book Fair in Yaiza. Playa Blanca

A whole day dedicated to literature and to the power of the written word prepared for the whole family, in the street Limones in Playa Blanca. The municipality of Yaiza invites you this Saturday to the fifth edition of the Book Fair with a program that combines the enhancement of literary creation with different forms of artistic expression. 13. St. George´s Day. Puerto del Carmen.

Like every year, coinciding with St. George festivity, patron of England held on April 23, the Musical Association "The Skatoons" organizes a day of fraternization, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism of the Tías City Council, to commemorate this day by the British community living or spending the holidays in Puerto del Carmen.

Thus, Montaña Mall gardens will host “St. George's Day” from 3:00 to 9:00 pm, with different musical performances, among which, Rat Pack & Sax by Anthony, Chrissy Looker, The Skatoons, The Chancers or Liquid Rollers. Entry is free.

14. San José Obrero Festivities in La Asomada

This Sunday begins the “San Jose Obrero” festivities, in Macher. At 9:00 am there will be Hiking, departing from the Teleclub, organized by Senderismo Lanzarote. And at 5:00 pm, there will be the Children's Puppet Show "El Burrito Catalino" organized by Indiera Theatre.

15. La Santa Coast Cleaning

Sunday, April 24, it will take place the first volunteer cleaning of La Santa coast of La Santa. All those wishing to participate in this initiative should be at 9:00 am that day on La Santa’s dock.

16. A grito pelao

A disappointed to life “snow white” and her rock band are responsible for helping us to get "the child in us" and to express ourselves "A Grito pelao" (Very loudly) this sunday at 8:00 pm in the Tías Municipal Theatre.

Humor, music, dance, poetry and illustration come together so Cristina Medina excites us and shakes us out of our chairs of the theater. Surely, you won’t want to miss a show like this.

17. I Torneo de Baloncesto Marina Lanzarote “Vipe Pinturas y Reformas”

The I Basketball Tournament Marina Lanzarote “Vipe Pinturas y Reformas” (Vipe Paintings and Reform) will take place on Sunday, with meetings from 10:00 am to2:00 pm at the Marina Lanzarote. A basketball tournament “prebenjamín” category and it will feature the participation of teams of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

18.Sonidos Líquidos. MUCHO. Bodega Los Bermejos

Tickets are sold out, so we hope you have yours for the show of “Sonidos Líquidos” at the Bodega Los Bermejos, this Sunday at 1:00 pm.

It will perform “Mucho”, a band formed in 2010. It will be an amazing showcase, with great music and wine.
