17 Things to Do this Weekend in Lanzarote

This weekend you won’t want to stay home because, although the weather is not very good, there are many things to do this weekend in Lanzarote. It's the start of the weekend and the start of a new month! As always, we tell you about the best events and activities on the island for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

1. Violinist Ara Milikian at Teatro Insular de Lanzarote

Tickets are sold out ... and if you have yours, surely you’re counting the hours for this amazing show. It’s almost here. Tonight, at 9:00 pm, the Spanish violinist Ara Malikian comes to Lanzarote to delight the audience at the Teatro Insular de Lanzarote with his music.

The musician of Lebanese origin and Armenian descent will present his album 15, which was released in February 2015 and includes the recording of the concert and numerous extras and additional material. The tour and the disc have a special meaning, celebrating his fifteenth anniversary living in Spain and musical career.

The idea that drives this new tour, as usual, is to bring classical music to all audiences, from the youngest to the oldest.

Ara Malikian (violin) will be joined on stage by Humberto Armas (viola), Jorge Guillen del Castillo (violin), Nantha Kumar (Indian tables), Tania Bernáez (bass), Hector “El Turco” (percussion) and Daniel Berona (cello).

 

2. Lyrical Recital. Villa de Teguise

Today La Villa de Teguise hosts the Lyrical Recital. The show will be at 9:00 pm in the Convent of Santo Domingo, performing the tenor Francisco Corujo, soprano Ruth Teran and pianist Angel Cabrera. The entrance is priced at 15 euros, they can be purchased at the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Villa de Teguise and Costa Teguise.

3. Craft European Days 2016

Craft European Days 2016" will be held on April 1, 2 and 3 in San Bartolome, Haria and Teguise. The Cabildo of Lanzarote encourages citizens to participate in activities held, to promote local crafts.

Today, Friday, in Casa Cerdeña in San Bartolomé, at 7:00 pm the presentation of the Intercultural Association of Crafts in Lanzarote (AICAL) with a press conference and the activities of the "Craft European Days 2016 " that will be held. Then it will open the exhibition AICAL: tradition and modernity in crafts.

 

Tomorrow, Saturday April 2, at the Craft Market Haria, from 10:00 hours to 12:00 hours there will be a pottery workshop "Noah's Ark" (El Arca de Noé) with Oscar Mario Cervigni. From 12:00 to 2:00 pm will be the Creative Workshop "Make a plate" (Haz tu chapa) by Fernando Gonzalez. Simultaneously, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, you can enjoy live music with Mombe World Music Group. At 12:00 hours there will be a parade, and from 1:00 pm Children's Storytelling by Miren Edurne.

 On Sunday, April 3, there will be acts at La Villa de Teguise, starting at 10:00 am until noon, with a Wool Flowers workshop with Sara Villalba. From 11:00 am to 1:00 pm there will be live music with El Tana (pop rock), and from 12:00 to 2:00 pm “Art in Sand” workshop by Renata Doringer.

4. Solidarity Race IES Tías 2016

Today is the third edition of the Solidarity Race Tías IES 2016, considered the most important student race in Lanzarote. Students, parents and teachers from different institutes of the island will participate. Lionel Morales, the renowned paratriathlete, will also be present, for the second consecutive year.

Benefits of the III Solidarity Race are in favor of Ivan Artiles with Duchenne muscular dystrophy for buying an electric wheelchair.

 

5. Solidarity Concert for Iván Artiles

Tias will host this Saturday April 2 the charity event "Solidarity Concert". The event to help the Ivan Artiles, 12 years old, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and needs an electric chair with specific characteristics for his disease. The concert will include the participation of singers, DJ's, comedians that will meet next to the football field in Tias from 5:00 pm.

 

6. XXIII Conference of Teatro Encarnación Rodríguez, in Haría

 

The cultural center La Tegala of Haria will host in April the XXIII Conference of Incarnation Rodriguez Theather and this Saturday there will be activitiesm also part of the European Days of Crafts, such as "Tales of art" (Cuentos con arte) by Miren Edurne at noon.

 At 8:30 pm there will be a performance by the “Viejas solteronas de Los Quemados” Association from Fuencaliente La Palma. There will be different skits like "The Cuban Sebastian", "Polka", "Dance of the Old Maids" (El Cubano Sebastián, La Polca, La danza de la Viejas Solteronas), among others.

 

7. I Meeting of Agro-Enoturismo in the Canary Islands

Yesterday began the First Meeting of Agro-tourism Canary Islands, which continues today at the Hotel Fariones and Bodegas El Grifo from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. This initiative seeks to deepen the possibilities of development of this economic activity with great potential in the islands.

 

8. International Children's Book Day

International Children's Book Day in Femés

Once upon a time a group of children wrote a wonderful and fantastic tale where imagination and adventure would be assured... And that will happen this Saturday April 2, at the Cultural Center Femés, to celebrate the International Book Day Children at 11:00 am.

Workshop: “Create your own puppet and let's play with it" in Arrecife

For the "Children's Book Day" this Saturday April 2 a workshop making puppets or marionettes will be held in the Children's Library (Calle La Inés No. 1), with "Create your own puppet and let’s play with it” (Crea tu propia marioneta y juguemos con ella). With the help of Manoli and Joana, the kids will learn to use their imagination to shape the most amazing characters.

The workshop will be held from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and all materials for the paper puppets will be provided by the Library. Anyone wishing to create a Sock Puppet, should take a long sock and if possible other than white.

9. Workshop: “Writing fragances" (Escribiendo fragancias). Playa Blanca and Las Breñas.

Today, at 5:00 pm, at the Library of Playa Blanca, it will be held the Workshop "Writing fragrances". And at 6:30 pm it will be at the Cultural Center of Las Breñas. The workshop is taught by Pepa González and is for at children between 7 and 14 years.

10.Dial Meeting with Lanzarote's singer Eva Ruiz

 

This saturday, April 2, at 12:00 pm you can meet singer Eva Ruiz from Lanzarote in the Biosphere Plaza Shopping Center in the Dial meeting. Attendees will also hear live some of the new album from one of the best voices on the national scene.

11. World Autism Awareness Day in Arrecife

 

Under the "World Day for Autism Awareness", the City of Arrecife organized in collaboration with AsperCan (Asperger Association Canary Islands), a day of awareness, to be held today, Friday, April 1 at 9: 00 pm with illumination with blue lights Castillo de San Gabriel, with the soundtrack of Cristian Castro’s song “Azul” (Blue) and then proceed to read the Manifesto of associations of autism in Spain.

Additionally, it is planned for this Saturday, April 2, going to the movies with members of the association.

Under the slogan "inclusion, tolerance and respect" each year, on April 2, associations of autism around the world celebrate World Autism Awareness Day in order to raise public awareness about this disorder and promote social inclusion of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

12.Theater: The King's Speech

 

Lanzarote will receive the theatrical version of The King's Speech, Tom Hooper's film which won four Oscars (Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Actor).

Zebra Productions is responsible for staging this script adapted by David Seiler Emilio Hernandez, directed by Magüi Mira and starring a great cast led by Adrian Lastra, Roberto Alvarez, Ana Villa, Lola Marceli and Angel Savín.

The story takes place between the speech of Prince Albert at Wembley in 1925 and his speech, as King George VI in 1939, to communicate that war with Germany was declared.

The play is this Saturday April 2, at 9:00 pm in the Teatro Insular of Lanzarote.

13. Gaviotas Subterráneas. Arrecife

Comik Theatre Company presents several dates of the play "Gaviotas Subterráneas" (Underground gulls). The first one it will be in Arrecife, on Saturday at 9:00 pm in the Recova Municipal. Free admission with limited capacity.

14. Festival de Chirigotas Islas Canarias 2016

Canary islands will receive this saturday, for the first time, a real festival of "chirigotas gaditanas". The show will consist of the award-winning Chirigota the Canijo and three of the most acclaimed "illegal" or "street" of the Carnival. You can also see a hilarious Ballads of the Barba brothers, leader group of this modality.

A show of 120 minutes from the best humor Cadiz Carnival presented in the Municipal Theatre of Tias at 8:00 pm.

15. Charity Canicross "Deja Huella" 2016. San Bartolomé

The Charity Canicross Deja Huella in San Bartolome will be this sunday at 10:00 am at the Casa Mayor Guerra.

The route is 4 kilometers and runs along the path Gr 131 and the network of local trails of the municipality, with the start and finish at the Casa Mayor Guerra.

There will be a Canicross Kids, with a distance adapted for the children, they may choose to make the trip running or walking with their pets, a part of the track and under the supervision of the organization.

The participants will run with their pet on trails and gravel roads in the municipality.

Those who wish may participate with dogs from shelters, with advance notice.

Canicross is for charity, all the money raised will be used to help dogs get out of shelters, and seek them a new home in Lanzarote, the islands and even in other countries.

16. Festival: Gimnastics

This Sunday begins the "XXIV Gymnastics Festival Island of Lanzarote Lolina Curbelo" at the Ciudad Deportiva Lanzarote with the celebration of "Festivalito" Gymnastics, which will include gymnasts aged between 3 and 9 years old during three sessions, with the beginning scheduled for 10:30 am, 12:30 and 5:00 pm. The following dates areApril 6, 7, 8 and 9.

17. Tri: 122 Teguise Santa Rosa Toyota Lanzarote Triathlon 2016. Costa Teguise.

Costa Teguise will host this Saturday the fifth edition of Triathlon Tri: 122

The triathlon will have a wide international representation with over 200 participants with athletes from different countries like Germany, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Spain, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Portugal and Switzerland.

The route includes two modes: the distance "Long" 2 km swim from Las Cucharas beach, 85 km of cycling Teguise and Haria, and 20 km run along the promenade of Costa Teguise, while "Short” distance contemplates for the same tests, 1km, 50km and 10km.

 

 

 

This weekend there is everything: music, children's activities, theater, storytelling, workshops, races ... Surely no one can say that "there is nothing to do in Lanzarote" because there are always many events and activities for all tastes and for all the family.
