14 Things to Do this Weekend in Lanzarote

Festivities in Uga and Tao, a Family Fun festival in Costa Teguise and a Scuba Festival in Playa Chica, Concerts, Theater… Yes, this weekend we have many options in Lanzarote. Like every week, in HolaLanzarote give you a list about the best Things to Do in Lanzarote this Weekend.

1.  Fiestas de San Isidro. Uga

Uga is celebrating this week and honoring "San Isidro Labrador" with a program of different activities until this Sunday. Look the program here:

Thursday May 12th

5:00 pm. Children’s games at the fairgrounds.

5:30 pm Magician José Ángel at the fairgrounds.

9:30 pm. Play-Back of the city seniors “Recuerdos del Ayer” (memories from yesterday).

Friday May 13th

Visit the Antigua Craft Fair in Fuerteventura.

Departure at 9:00 am, return at 6:00 pm (Naviera Armas). Price: 16 € resident. Contact phone 679453803.

6:00 pm. Gimkana Children's Fairground.

8:00 pm. Games with gifts for seniors  at the Cultural Center.

9.30 pm. Performance by LOS MAGNETICOS and SENTIMIENTO CON ARTE at the fairgrounds. After it will be the “verbena” (local party) with LD and NAIYIMBE Groups.

Saturday May 14th

10:00 am: San Isidro Labrador Motor Expo 2016 there will be motorcycles, cars, 4 × 4, etc.

11:00 am: Rally Simulator

6:30 pm. TRADITIONAL PILGRIMAGE with “romeras” and “romeros” (pilgrims) dressed in traditional costume and caparisoned camels with traditional chair and folk groups. Departure is from street Las Lapas to the fairgrounds.

Note: There will be Mass at 6:00 pm.

Romero dancing with the performance of groups LOS SALINEROS DE LA HOYA and PARRANDA

11:30 pm. Verbena with LD and NAIYIMBE groups.

Sunday May 15th

10:00 am. “Zumba MasterClass” by Fernando Petit and Oliver Martín at the fairgrounds.

11:00 am. Children's Party with airbeds and foam party at the fairgrounds.

7:00 pm. SOLEMN FUNCTION IN HONOR OF SAN ISIDRO LABRADOR with the performance of the Choir of Yaiza. Then procession accompanied by the Municipal Band of Yaiza.

9:00 pm. SAN ISIDRO GALA 2016 with the performance of Canarian humorist Juan Antonio Cabrera, the performance of singer Bruno Ramirez with ballet Dance Pop and performance by singer-songwriter Dácil Sanata, selected as best artist in the top 40 canaries 2015.

2. Fiestas de Santa Rita 2016 (Tao)

Santa Rita Fiestas in Tao begin today, Thursday, at 7:30 pm, with the adornment of the village, followed by the fight between teams CL Tao and CL Tinajo.

On Friday May 13th, at 8:30pm, it will be the opening speech of the festivities in honor of Santa Rita by Mr. José Luis Aparicio Morales. At 8:00 pm, there will be the Opening of the Photo Exhibition of the holidays and history of the people of Tao. At 10:00 pm it will be the performance by the Municipal Band of Teguise.

On Saturday May 14th, at 9:30 pm it will be the Traditional Party with Parranda Tao.

3.  Festival Family Fun. Costa Teguise

This Friday Costa Teguise will host the first family-Musical Theatre Festival Street: "Family Fun Costa Teguise".

This family meeting is aimed at all audiences, with a performance’s program which has all kinds of musical, theatrical and artistic styles, and it will also have public participation.

Ciempiés Ni Cabeza, La Sra Tomasa, la Orquesta Clásica de Lanzarote, Adrián Conde, el Gran Braulio, Rock&Fun, Okidoc Slips Experience, Peter Punk and Petip Pop will offer amazing performances at the festival that is done in the streets. The festival is totally free.

All events are carefully scheduled to avoid overlap and the public can attend all. See the program below:

4.  Lanzarote Scuba Festival 2016. Puerto del Carmen.

The “Lanzarote Scuba Festival” is this weekend in Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen. This festival, with the theme “sharks and volcanoes”, has a program filled with activities related to scuba diving, snorkel and educational workshops. You can review the program below:


 

5.  Humor: “La risa no engorda”

Tías Municipal Theatre receives tomorrow, Friday May 13, the play " La risa no engorda” (Laughter is not fattening). The Canarian humorist Maestro Floridon stars in this play and makes a reflection of today's society, full of labels, outfits and ways of living, which make up a huge showcase where almost anything goes. Tickets are priced from 10 euros and can be purchased at gas stations Pcan Aunts and Arrecife, as well as in the theater box office one hour before the performance.

6.   Theaer: “Sólo X Amor”

The play "Sólo x Amor” (Just x Love) shows, among sorrows and joys, the world of women moving through feeling. The Somos Teatro theater company presents this Friday, May 13 "Sólo x Amor" at 9:00 pm in the Teatro Hermanas Manuela y Esperanza Spínola de La Villa de Teguise. The entrance is priced at 5 € and can be purchased one hour before the show at the box office.

7.  COPA AA: Travesía a nado Sailfish Open Water

Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen hosts on Saturday the second edition of Sailfish Open Water Lanzarote. The Open waters Crossing will have a distance of 3.8 kilometers and it will receive more than 400 local and international swimmers.

8.    El Musical Charlie y la fábrica de Chocolate.

This May 14 is presented at the Teatro Victor Fernandez Gopar "El Salinero" (Teatro Insular) "The Musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". All the students of the Santa Maria de los Volcanes-Nazaret will participate.

The 1st session will be at 4:00 pm and the 2nd session at 7:00 pm.

Tickets cost 6 € and will benefit Caritas.

 

9.    Concert: Ainhoa Arteta and Pancho Corujo. Jameos del Agua

We hope you already have your ticket, because They’re sold out! The soprano Ainhoa Arteta and Lanzarote’s tenor Pancho Corujo will performe this Saturday at the Jameos del Agua Auditorium, at 8:00 pm. They will be accompanied on the piano by maestro Marco Evangelisti.

10.  I Classical Concert Cycle in Arrecife

This Saturday the Lanzarote Classical Orchestra continues the I Classical Concert Cycle in Arrecife, which purports to be an appointment for music lovers. And this Saturday, at 8:30 pm in the Sala José Saramago, will be the "String Quartet and Saxo" concert.

The string quartet which normally performs with the OCL will accompany saxophonist Salvador Santana Luján. The virtuosity of this teacher, born in Arucas and living in Lanzarote, gives an extra dimension to this very versatile instrument. The programme, made up of works by Albinoni (1671 – 1751) and Adolf Busch (1891 – 1952) takes us to different eras of music composed for an instrument which originated around 1840.

General admission is priced at 12 euros; there are also tickets for several concerts and special price for members and students.

In addition, at 12:30 pm there will be a small concert or "Petit concert" (Free) as a prelude to the evening concert at La Plazuela in Arrecife.

11.  Concert “Vocal Siete”. Teguise

This Saturday May 14, at 9:00 pm, “Vocal Siete” will be at the Santo Domingo Convent  in Teguise; where they will present their second album "Con voz Propia" (with your own voice) and also will be signing it. The entrance is priced at 10 € and can be purchased at the Department of Culture of Teguise, in the Casa-Museo del Timple, in the Office of Tourism of Costa Teguise and one hour before the concert at the box office.

12.  Musical: “Mujer contra mujer”

The musical “Mujer contra mujer” (woman against woman) will show this Saturday at 9:00 pm at the Municipal Theatre of San Bartolome. The show, by canaries and Argentine artists settled in the islands, runs through songs of the legendary Spanish group Mecano, with live music entirely and varying styles such as Pop, Rock, Salsa, Jazz, Soul and Flamenco.

Tickets are priced at 10 € and can be purchased at Casa Ajei, Playa Honda Municipal Offices and at the box office.

13.  Family Day at Rancho Texas

This Sunday is the International day for Family and Rancho Texas Park wants to celebrate with you. All Canary Island residents that come to the park on Sunday, will have their food included in the entrance price, because a great day out is all about the fun.

14.  EL TRÁMITE 2

Are there really household heroes and heroines? Would we trust the resolution of any major conflict to this quartet that’s unable to carry its existence honorably?

This play will let you know. “El Trámite 2” reaches canaries theaters with the sequel to the theatrical comedy "Tramite". This humorous play, in charge of the actress Cristina Medina, will show this Sunday at the Teatro Municipal in Tías at 8:00 pm.
