1. Carnival in Arrecife 2017

Have a great time at the Carnival in Arrecife, with the parades, fiesta de la tapa, kids shows, murgas, batucadas and comparsas. Look at the program here:

Friday, february 24th
9:00 pm. Final of the 29th Adult Murgas COntest in the Recinto Ferial Marquee, with the participation of the finalist murgas and the performances of the chirigota "La Aguja de Oro".

Saturday, February 25th
12:00 pm. Parade of "batucadas" and "comparsas" from Las Cuatro Esquinas to Parque Islas Canarias through Calle Real.

1:30 pm. Carnaval Porteño Arrecife 2017 and Feria de la Tapa in the Islas Canarias Park, with bouncy castles, children's play area and performances by the groups Los Conejeros, Última Llave, Henry Méndez, Lucrecia and Alejo Stivel.

5:00 pm. 3rd edition of Masquerade for Eldery People in the Civic Centre in Arrecife (organized by the Social Services Counsel).

Sunday, Februay 26th
5:30 pm. Children's Carnival. Children's Queen Contest and Best Individual, Couple and Group Fancy Dress Contest with performance by the Comparsa Sur Caliente Junior.

Monday, February 27th
6:00 pm. Grand Carnival Parade with floats, murgas, comparsas, batucadas from Ciudad Deportiva to the Recinto Ferial Marquee along the Via Medular.

Tuesday, February 28th
5:30 pm. Infants' Little Carnival with the music show "Prince Hamlet" in the Recinto Ferial Marquee with workshops and bouncy castles.

Wednesday, March 1st
6:00 pm. The Burial of the Sardine, starting from the Townhall to the Parque Maritimo with the participation of murgas, comparsas, batucadas, winning floats and mourning widows. Afterwards, the Grand Cremation of the Sardine of Carnival 2017.

2. Carnival in San Bartolomé 2017 "Un Carnaval de Cine" (Movie Carnival)

San Bartolomé presents "A Movie Carnival" to celebrate the Carnival this weekend and up to March 3. On Tuesday, February 28 in San Bartolomé, you can hava  a great time at the Family Day Carnival:

12:00 pm. Great Carnival Parade with murgas, comparsas and batucadas, from Constitucion Street (Tanit Museum), crossing the streets Rubicón, Avda. Mayor Antonio Cabrera Barrera and Rubicon finishing at the park Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente.

Concert by bands Inerxia, Treintytantos and Dj Ángel Pérez.

Children's workshops and bouncy castles.

Costumes competitions Children (from 1 to 13 years) and Youth (from 14 to 18 years), in the categories single, couple and group (groups maximum 8 people). There will be jury scout who will value the fantasies during the day. Judgment of the jury at 5:00 pm.

Food and drink service at popular prices.

 

3. Carnaval Infantil Las Breñas

La fiesta infantil de Carnaval de Las Breñas se celebra este viernes 24 de febrero, a las 20:00 horas, en el Centro Cultural de Las Breñas. Habrá animación y mini disco carnavalera para pasar una tarde divertidísima. No olvides llevar tu disfraz, Las Breñas y su gente te esperan.

4. Carnival at Deiland

The Deiland Shopping Center offers a carnival program for this week:

Children's Costume Contest 2017. 

 

On Friday, February 24, the Children's Costume Contest will be held at the Deiland Shopping Center at 6:00 pm.

There will be a prize for the best individual costume, for couples and groups (maximum groups of 6 components).

Pasacalles and Children's Performance by "Los Guacimetitos".

On Saturday, February 25th, the Deiland Shopping Center offers the Parade and Children's performance by "Los Guacimetitos" is celebrated, at 11:30 am.

5. Presentation of groups of Carnival of Teguise 2017

On Friday, February 24 will be the presentation of the Carnival groups: Chicavillas, Merekumbe and Menuda Caña at the Sociocultural Center in Villa of Teguise, at 8:30 pm.

 

6. I MTB-XC San Bartolome Championship

On Saturday February 25 begins the 1st MTB-XC San Bartolomé Championship at 4:30 pm. The circuit has a distance of 800 meters and will travel around the Casa Mayor Guerra at San Bartolome.

Modality: Cross Country or Marathon by Mountain (XC), is composed of 3 races to be performed on different dates. The course for the 3 is the same, being developed in a closed circuit of short distance where the participants have to give a determined number of turns according to the category in which participates. This championship will be valid for the III Insular Cup of Mountain Bike Island of Lanzarote 2017.

The categories will be: Promises (under 9 years old), Beginners (9 and 10 years), Fry (11 and 12 years), Children (13 and 14 years) and Cadets (15 and 16 years).

7. The Fairy Queen

On Saturday 25th February, the opera of H. Purcell (concert version) "The Fairy Queen" is presented. Under the musical direction of Sergio Siminovich and with choir and orchestra of the Siminovich Workshop.

Also participating are the soloists: Luis Palma, Sheyla Rizo, Daniela Rotondi, Sarah Rigamonti, Antonia Pasquariello, Claudio Licursi, Giacomo Terenzi, Carla Allegre and Simone Calviello.

The concert will take place in the Convent of Santo Domingo at 6:00 pm. Tickets are priced at € 12 at the box office.

8. Lecture: Planetary caves from the depths of the Earth to the Moon and Mars

The Director of the PANGAEA Course of the European Space Agency, Francesco Sauro; And National Geographic Caves photographer Robbie Shone will give a talk on "Planetary Caves, from the Depths of the Earth to the Moon and Mars", at Haría's Tegala Cultural Center La Tegala on Saturday 25 February at 8:00 pm.

 

9. Exhibitions

We recommend several exhibitions to visit in Lanzarote, which has a wide cultural agenda.

Exhibition of Historical Photographs of the Carnival of Lanzarote. Deiland

Look at the history of Carnival with the "Exhibition of Historic Photographs of the Carnival of Lanzarote" that will be at the Deiland Shopping Center until March 8.

Exhibition: "Cinco creadoras en busca de Arozarena"

Margarita Amat, Mariola Acosta, Macarena Nieves Cáceres, Ángeles García and Rosa Vera are the artists of "Five creators in search of Arozarena", a project which main objective is to investigate the possible relations between literary creation and the different plastic. The exhibition is at the CIC El Almacén until April 29.

Exhibition: "Visto y no visto" by Bego Izarra.

The exhibition "Visto y no visto" (Seen and not seen) by the artist Bego Izarra is in the Exhibition Hall El Quirófano located at the Sociocultural Center of the neighborhood of La Vega and it can be visited until Wednesday 8 March.

Exhibition: "Abrazo de luces de Lanzarote", Drawings and Paintings by Rafael Cuartielles

The exhibition "Abrazo de luces de Lanzarote", of Drawings and Paintings by artist Rafael Cuartielles, is presented in the Hall of Exhibitions "The Aljibe" of Haría until this Saturday 25 of February.

"Lanzarote is full of light, a light that embraces you for yourself and your people" Rafael Cuartielles.
